Atrium Home

Atrium Home
The challenge in this house, designed for occupation and use by a three to four generation family, was thus to ensure each of the occupants had their own privacy and spaces while being a home for the whole family. The common living and entertainment and owners spaces on the right on the double plot with the sons’ smaller semi independent units with independent entrances on the left flank a central spine accommodating the grandparents/ potential children’s rooms. A central atrium overlooked by all the living spaces of the house forms a unifying core like an enclosed extension of the generous front garden. Most rooms open out into exterior garden spaces through wide / corner doors via decks and balconies; rooms in the rear & bathrooms overlook landscaped courts making green areas part of the experience of most spaces. Exterior form in Corten steel, white brick, some wood and grey allows the greenery to form a dominant part of the exterior ; the interiors in greys offset by wood detailing and white surfaces.
